Title of Event: America Unchained Day
When: Saturday, November 22, 2008 9:00 AM
Location: Lindon Bookstore
Description:

Sometimes seemingly small acts have an impact bigger than you ever imagined. Take family spending. You may think you’re just fulfilling your family’s wants or needs when you shop or dine out. Think again.

The choice of where you spend your money makes a big difference to your community. Spending your money with locally-owned independent businesses puts it to work directly helping your local economy—just one way your community benefits from its independent businesses. They use goods and services of other locally-owned independent businesses--re-circulating your money about 3.5 times longer locally than if you spend it at a chain*. This creates greater community health and prosperity.

Now imagine the impact on your community if everyone shopped locally owned. You can stop imagining and help make it a reality.

On November 22, communities around continent will be urged to “unchain” for just that one day—to maximize the impact of their dollars and inject potentially millions more into the local economy through joining other residents to do their shopping, dining out and other business only with locally-owned independent businesses.

Origin Origin
by Abu-Jaber, Diana
"Finally, a novel of literary suspense that gets almost everything right--forensically and psychologically."--Sarah Weinman, "Baltimore Sun"
In this "mystery of cold beauty and dark isolation, written with crystalline precision" ("Miami Herald"), a series of crib deaths in Syracuse, New York, draws the attention of police and national media. Is a serial infant murderer at large?
A "haunting story, icy cold in its upstate New York setting but glowing with the unusual brightness of its heroine" ("Eugene Weekly"), "Origin" stars a solitary fingerprint examiner who finds herself playing a critical role in the case. Diana Abu-Jaber, a "gifted and graceful writer" ("Chicago Tribune"), masterfully "transcends formula" ("Kirkus Reviews") as "the tension of "Origin" escalates, shaped as much by beautifully nuanced prose as menacing events" ("New York Daily News"). Reading group guide included.

The Whiskey Rebels
by Liss, David
David Liss has always written incredible historical novels, but The Whiskey Rebels is his best yet. Beginning in 1792, the story features a former Revolutionary War spy, with action that moves between New York, Philadelphia, and the western frontier of Pennsylvania, involving Alexander Hamilton and the establishment of the Bank of the United States. No American history buff, or lover of a well-crafted novel, should miss this one.--Deal Safrit, Literary Book Post (Salisbury, NC)

All About Lindon Bookstore
We think the Lindon Bookstore is a superb place to meet your friends, talk books, or just wile away some time sipping a latte in our comfy reading nook. In July 2004, Robin Buckingham and Brianne Kuhle bought Lindon Bookstore from Dave & Linda Rolczynski, who began the store in 1985. We are constantly striving to create not just a shop, but a shopping experience. We are located in scenic Enumclaw, Washington, a small, rural community at the foot of majestic Mount Rainier.

Quote of the Day
"The crime of book purging is that it involves a rejection of the word. For the word is never absolute truth, but only man's frail and human effort to approach the truth. To reject the word is to reject the human search."

- Max Lerner
